Scandinavian Modern ADU
The Story
Designed and built by Chris Burk as part of a larger Scandinavian modern family compound, this structure represents the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) portion of the property, intentionally designed to remain under the 1,250 sq ft threshold while delivering a full luxury living experience. The ADU includes a spacious 30’ x 30’ garage and 1,240 sq ft of interior living space defined by steep 12/12 roof pitches and a dramatic vaulted great room that anchors the kitchen and living areas. Indoor–outdoor entertaining was a core design driver, with a covered deck featuring a fireplace and integrated television, alongside a dedicated grilling area with built-in barbecue. The architectural palette blends contemporary Hardie panel siding with rustic Douglas fir horizontal tongue-and-groove, creating a refined yet warm Scandinavian aesthetic. A shared cul-de-sac connects this ADU to the main residence—approximately 3,800 sq ft—matching the same design language and reinforcing the property’s cohesive, modern family compound vision.
